A Deeper Thought
Alright, so I have titled this blog A Deeper Thought. I will get right into what made me come up with this title. I have just spent the last hour going through and reading all these blogs. While reading I have of course been thinking, and because of how I am I have been thinking about just about everything coming up and about random things from the past. As I was reading I came up with something that I would never have thought about and am still not sure what made me think about it any more. So....How many of you, when you eat Chinese, are tired of getting a fortune cookie that really doesn't give YOU a fortune anymore. . . . Well I was and usually I take my fortune and read it, put it down and say that was a joke. Once again that happened today as I had some good Hy-Vee Chinese. My wonderful fortune was "To open the doors to your future, first you must open the door for others." Now between when I first started this and now I have come up with even more meaning to this. (random side note, just proves I think a lot about A LOT) However, after reading some of the blogs I have come to the conclusion that we are all taking this class to help us on our way to our future. By doing this we have unknowingly chosen a path that is making us open doors for others first. Now my brand new thought is adding more to it. By opening doors for others we are building a stronger base for us to push off of to reach our end goal. There have been many before us and I'm sure many behind us that will not take the time to open these doors for others and I am not saying they are going to fail but they will have to work harder to get to a point that we are. By opening these doors we have accepted that we cannot accomplish something on our own and that we are accepting some form of help from others to HELP US. There are times when we will struggle and there will be forms of help trying to help us but no matter what we have to open the door for them to get to us and help us. This can be looked at from so many directions that I am starting to loose my direct train of thought. So this is not what I had initially planned on posting but I think that this is something that everyone should take into consideration. You can not achieve everything in life without ever opening a door, but look at the other side as well sometimes someone will not open a door unless it is being knocked on, so if you can follow this great if not ask me to explain. (In all truth I am still explaining it to myself) However, I will leave you with that.

Wow! That was really deep and metaphorical, and it seems for once a fortune cookie actually provided some insight. I always get annoyed when the fortune cookies from Panda Express don't really tell a fortune, but I really like the "door opening" one a lot and think it applies perfectly to our situation as mentors.
ReplyDeleteI like that you're engaging in deeper thinking,Cody. I hope that through this class we are able to clarify why reflective thinking is so critical to personal and professional growth.
ReplyDeleteI understand what it is you're saying. In order for you to get ahead it is important for you to help others. It seems ironic that you got that fortune cookie right before you started to blog, perhaps it was fate!
ReplyDeleteOkay.. at first when reading this I have to say that I was thinking.. what the hell is Cody on a tangent about now? but then I kept reading and it was such a fantastic intro story to your topic! Your fortune cookie is very true for so many of us! I have kept thinking that I feel guilty because I should be learning about how to make others' experiences better, but rather, I am learning about how to make myself a better person. We are opening the doors for others and unknowingly, we opened the door for ourselves. Excellent fortune.
